Dr. Sofica Bistriceanu: The Most Influential Primary Healthcare Leader Driving Patient-Centered Care, Medical Research & Healthcare Excellence in 2026
Medicine has been Dr. Sofica Bistriceanu's profession, but understanding people has been a thread running through much of her work. As a family physician in Romania, she has seen how much can depend on a conversation between a doctor and a patient. A symptom may bring someone into a clinic, but the story behind it is not always easy to tell. It takes time, attention and the willingness to listen before a physician can begin to understand what a patient is going through.
This interest in the human side of medicine has accompanied Dr. Bistriceanu throughout her work in primary healthcare and research. A graduate of Grigore T. Popa University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Iași, she earned her PhD in 2009 and pursued research training in primary care. Her professional interests have taken her into international research circles, academic discussions and studies examining communication, patient experience, professional relationships and cardiovascular health.
There is another side to her story, too. Dr. Bistriceanu has published seven volumes of poetry, a pursuit that sits naturally alongside her interest in human behaviour, relationships and expression. Both medicine and poetry ask us to pay attention to what people experience, even when they cannot easily put it into words.
This issue brings together these different aspects of her journey. It looks at a career shaped by clinical practice, research and a continuing interest in the people at the heart of healthcare. Her story is a reminder that while medical knowledge continues to grow, listening to the patient remains an essential part of being a doctor.
